JSON Formatter & Converter
Validate, format, minify, and convert JSON to XML, CSV, or YAML. All processing happens in your browser, no uploads required.
Ideal for developers and data analysts to quickly inspect, clean up, or transform JSON data for various applications without server-side processing.
How to use JSON Formatter & Converter
- Paste your JSON data into the input area or click "Upload Data" to load from a file.
- Click "Validate" to check if the JSON is well-formed.
- Select tab spacing and click "Format / Beautify" for readable JSON.
- Click "Minify / Compact" to get a compact version.
- Choose a target format (XML, CSV, YAML) and click "Convert".
- Click "Download" to save the output.
Formatting, validating, and minifying
Formatting re-indents JSON so structure is readable, which is the fastest way to find a misplaced bracket in a long API response. Minifying strips whitespace for the opposite reason — smaller payloads over the wire.
Both operations parse the document first, so invalid JSON is reported rather than silently mangled. The parse error points at where the document stopped being valid, which is usually just after the real mistake.
Mistakes that make JSON invalid
The common ones are a trailing comma after the last item, single quotes instead of double quotes around keys or strings, unquoted keys, and comments. All four are legal in JavaScript object literals and none are legal in JSON, which is why hand-edited config files break so often.
Questions
- Is my data sent anywhere?
- No. Parsing and formatting happen in your browser. This matters because JSON pasted for debugging routinely contains API keys, tokens, and personal records.
- Does formatting change my data?
- No. Only whitespace changes. Keys, values, types, and ordering are preserved exactly.
